"Coontail Farm is a demonstration forest and working tree farm where the effects and benefits of intensive forest management can be easily observed. Side-by-side comparisons of various practices, along with documentation of before-and-after conditions, provide landowners and managers the information they need to make decisions to help them attain their timber and wildlife goals."

-- Steve Butler, President, TimberCorp, Inc

"If private landowners want to see outstanding pine/wildlife management, then Coontail Farms is where they need to visit. Through correct thinning operations, prescribed burning, and the application of selective herbicides, Coontail Farms has turned their pine plantations into not only timber growing machines, but some of the best deer and turkey habitat avialable in North Mississippi."

-- Timothy A. Traugott, Extension Professor,
    Department of Forestry,
    Mississippi State University

"Coontail Farm is a great example of how private landowners can manage for timber production and wildlife habitat without compromising either. Through the application of innovative management techniques, Coontail Farm has the best of both worlds."

-- Joe Koloski, National Wild Turkey
    Federation, Senior Regional Biologist

“Coontail Farm is an excellent example of how private landowners can manage their forest land for optimal timber production while maintaining wildlife habitat.”

-- Dr. Andrew W. Ezell, Dept. of Forestry,
   Mississippi State University

“Application of the selective herbicide Arsenal combined with prescribed fire can significantly improve wildlife habitat quality.  On properties where undesirable mid-story hardwoods were a problem, we saw a 900% increase in deer nutritional carrying capacity two years after the combined treatment.”

-- Dr. Steve Demarais, Dept. of Wildlife
   and Fisheries, Mississippi State University
